Covid Crazy

Well it's been a wild month and a half since my last blog post!! The whole world is going through a lot right now. People have lost their jobs, canceled and postponed weddings, and started working from home with kids who are also home trying to do online school. There is so much uncertainty and almost everyone's normal is no longer normal.

That being said I am not going to lie I am incredibly lucky, my day to day life hasn't changed much at all. I am a stay at home mom who lives on an acreage an hour and a half from our closest family, and my husband has a fairly secure job. Going to see our family is something that we do often but it's not like we see them weekly or that they can swing by just for coffee. We just try to get outside as much as possible, get in the garden, play on the trampoline, and the playset. That's not to say I have not been affected, I want to go visit my parents ranch, and I worry about my grandparents, I worry about people I know from country's that are getting hit hard, I worry about people I don't know, and I worry daily about my grandparents getting sick but I am also worried for myself.

3 years ago in March when Emma was then 10 months old I was diagnosed with Pulmonary Sarcoidosis (see below). About 5 months before that I noticed I would get winded easily and my energy levels seemed to be dipping. By November I was always tired, going to the washroom made me breathless and I had hardly enough energy to care for Emma, make supper, and do some of the dishes and I developed a cough that stuck with me until February. I won't go into it much more but I have been incredibly lucky, my doctor suspected it was Sarcoidosis very quickly (some people don't get a diagnosis for years) he put me on Prednisone for 40 days and got me into the specialist. I was officially diagnosed in March and I was well on the road to recovery already. I have officially been in remission for almost a year, which means my lungs have shown no signs of of Sarcoidosis for a full year before that. Now although I am in remission we don't know why Sarcoidosis developed, when it did, or if it will again. Sarcoidosis also doesn't just affect the lungs it can affect almost any organ, so any time I have a weird itch or a twitchy eye I have to talk myself out of worrying that Sarcoidosis has developed again. I know it's silly and I try not to be paranoid, but I also don't want to be complacent and get into a situation where I'm in as rough shape as I was before I got my diagnosis!

So what does Covid do to people with Sarcoidosis? Well for someone with active pulmonary Sarcoidosis it seems likely that it would cause issues but, someone in remission? I sure hope not but there is very little information on how Covid affects Sarcoidosis out there. I honestly try not to worry about it to much, I have had a few rough days here and there and had to stop looking at the news so much. Now that the snow is gone and I can get outside a little more I am finding it much easier.

So that got a little heavier than I meant it to when I started writing this blog post. I meant to tell you my Covid activities have included drinking to much wine...and beer and sometimes gin, my photo club had our monthly meeting online, I had a "house Party" (the online kind) with friends, a few video chats with the girls and grandparents, and I started a sourdough starter. I'd love to say I was taking tons of pictures and editing old shots but I am in kind of an editing rut. I have hardly left our acreage since March 16th. Nick has done all the grocery shopping, and honestly I don't hate that arrangement! Easter was a little different for everyone this year but we still had a good time. I can't wait to go see my parents and the MANY baby calves they have this year, I love having the kids around the ranch!

I also wanted to say how absolutely horrible I feel for the people who have had to postpone and cancel weddings and grads. I got word as I was writing this post that a friend planning a wedding for August had to cancel their plans. I can't imagine the disappointment these couples are dealing with. I have had a hard time knowing what to say or how to process all the Covid craziness. So I'll end this hodgepodge post by saying I hope you are all finding some way to enjoy life despite everything that is going on, and I promise to do some spring photography related blog soonish.

*Sarcoidosis is an inflammatory disease that affects one or more organs but most commonly affects the lungs and lymph glands. As a result of the inflammation, abnormal lumps or nodules (called granulomas) form in one or more organs of the body. These granulomas may change the normal structure and possibly the function of the affected organ(s).

National Sarcoidosis Awareness Month begins on April 1... so I know I missed Awareness month by a day but better late than never I guess.
